About Us
St. Dominic's Community Council
St Dominic’s Community Council is a limited company based in Sunnyside, College Street, Mullingar, Co.Westmeath. The company was set up to provide a Meals on Wheels Service and low cost accommodation in a small number of one bed apartments for those in need in our community, in particular the elderly.
Fresh meals are prepared and cooked on site each day and delivered to recipients in Mullingar, Delvin, Castlepollard, Milltownpass, Rochfortbridge, Castletown Geoghegan and Ballynacarrigy. A small number of local people, referrals from the HSE, collect their meals at the centre.
The nutritional needs of each recipient are carefully checked. Meals are individually wrapped in HSE and EC - approved recyclable containers which can be reheated in a microwave or standard oven. A van provided by the national lottery through the HSE is used to distribute meals to Delvin, Castlepollard and Ballynacarrigy, where
they are delivered by local volunteers and home helps.
The entire operation is coordinated by the staff of St Dominic’s and the Ballynacarrigy Resource Centre. The number of meals prepared, cooked and delivered in 2015 was 18,365 and this is steadily increasing.
